6VT Garden Refurbishment Project
6VT added a request to our ESES Communities portal in early 2024, as their valuable outdoor space was in need of an overhaul.
They are a youth charity located in the old town of Edinburgh and attracts young people city wide from a variety of backgrounds. The service is open 52 weeks of the year, 5 days a week. Their hours of operation extend way past that of most other traditional youth provision, providing support at times when many young people find themselves in a vulnerable position.
We were contacted by MP Group who we were carrying out external refurbishment works, working alongside Changeworks as part of an Edinburgh Council refurbishment programme, and were keen to get involved to deliver this community benefit.
MP Group wanted to get involved with the project at 6VT as we were carrying out external refurbishment works, working alongside Changeworks as part of an Edinburgh Council refurbishment programme. We felt that this garden project was something that we wanted to pay attention to and put something back into the local community.
MP Group approached SD Roofing, who are one of their sub-contractors carrying out work in the area, to see if they would like to be involved and if they had any materials which could help out with the 6VT garden project.
After the team spent around 56 work hours on the transformation, they were able to fix and replace any areas of decking or stairs which made the garden unsafe, install a retaining sleeper wall which doubles as additional seating and tackle the many over grown areas of the garden.
The garden became so overwhelming. As a charity we do bits and bobs ourselves, but to have the team come out and do the work has been incredible. We can obviously do a little bit of weeding and planting, but it has transformed the garden and really motivated us to getting it all looking lovely again.
